Our Story
Mayacan’s journey began in the mid-1990s, initiated by a visionary group of Canadian investors seeking their own slice of paradise. Early ambitions included luxurious hotels, beachside condos, and expansive golf resorts. However, despite the appeal of these ideas, the timing was marred by regional political challenges, prompting the land to remain untouched for several decades.
A pivotal change came in 2016, when a dedicated director chose to settle permanently, constructing his beachfront home. Inspired by his example, other property owners soon followed, reigniting enthusiasm for this coastal treasure. Today, Mayacan is a carefully surveyed and thoughtfully developed community blending locals and expats. The land’s quiet years have allowed nature to reclaim the area, informally extending the neighboring wildlife sanctuary. Jaguars, toucans, tapirs, and myriad indigenous species now roam freely across our lush 900-acre protected zone.
